Today the lovely Sara Trimble has invited me to join her to chat about hot starts and slowburning books. What is your favourite first line? Do you enjoy plunging straight into the story
or do you enjoy a bit of build up? Come and chat with us about your favourite opening lines for the opportunity to win a copy of Notorious!

“It was the egret, flying out of the lemon grove, that started it”, from Mary Stewart’s The Moonspinners.
Lovely first line, Liz! Mary Stewart was very good at that. Also Penmarric by Susan Howatch which went something like: “I was ten years old when I first saw Penmarric and twenty years old when I first saw Janna Roslyn but my reaction to them both was identical; I wanted them.” Hard to beat that!
Think I’ve only read Sins of the Fathers. Need to check out Penmarric. Thanks.
